Kimpton is fast becoming my favourite IHG hotel brand. I’ll write more about why that is in a separate post soon, but in the meantime there is a genuinely excellent ‘flash sale’ on, which ends tonight.
“Psst. We’re letting you in on a secret. We celebrated our, gulp, 40th birthday this year. I know, I know, we don’t look a day over 29. Over the years, it’s been our pleasure to share in your special moments: the much-needed family getaways, the honeymoons, and the business trips where you totally nailed your presentation. So, we’d much rather celebrate you this year than make a fuss over ourselves.
To celebrate, we’re giving our members exclusive access to a two-day Secret Sale – with our biggest discount of the year. For two days only, you’ve got exclusive access with up to 40% off across Kimpton.
Note that this is 40% off the Best Flexible Rate (which is often quite a bit higher than other sale rates) – so the discount isn’t quite as dramatic as you might hope, but is still generally very good.
The Kimpton brand is expanding in Europe, with hotels currently open in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Paris, Barcelona and Amsterdam. Hotels in Frankfurt, Mallorca and Rotterdam are due to open over the next couple of years too. Globally, there are now 78 Kimptons, predominantly located in North America.
Here are a couple of examples of the sort of prices you can find at the Kimpton hotels in the UK during the sale (random dates chosen):
Kimpton Fitzroy London: £173.40 (the next lowest rate is £238, so the ‘real’ discount is about 27%, but with more flexible cancellation conditions than the next cheapest rate):
Kimpton Charlotte Square Edinburgh: £116.40 (next lowest rate is £169):
Bottom line
Kimpton hotels are lovely and these are some of the best rates I’ve seen. Given that the cancellation conditions are quite flexible, you might want to ‘lock in’ a few speculative bookings now, even if your travel plans aren’t concrete yet.
