Marriott Bonvoy has announced details of its latest “buy points” promotion. It will run until June 20th, 2021.

If you buy at least 2,000 points, you will receive a 30% discount. This means that you will pay~ 0.62p (0.875 cent)s per point.

Why You Should Ignore This Promotion

Marriott’s standard promotion offers a bonus of 50%. The last iteration ran back in March. That promotion – which also ran regularly in 2020 – is preferable in two ways:

1. You get more total points in your account when buying the annual maximum of 100,000 points per member (i.e. 150k after the bonus is added)
2. You pay a lower price ~0.59p (0.83 cents) per point

So, you really ought to ignore this promotion and wait for the 50% bonus to return…

When You Should Remember This Promotion

If you are already a member of TopCashback USA, you will know that they regularly offer members an additional $2.50 of cashback when spending at least $10.

More interestingly, TopCashback will occasionally email members offering them a $10 bonus for spending at least $10.

What does this have to do with Marriott Bonvoy?  Well… the purchase of Marriott points is processed by Points.com, which is available on the TopCashback USA (not TopCashback UK) website…

So… if you find yourself needing to spend $10 online and you can’t think of anything… you could spend $17.50 to buy 2,000 points from Marriott Bonvoy.

You would only earn 44 cents of cashback, but you could earn $2.50 or $10 on top.  No matter how many Marriott points you have, acquiring 2,000 more points for a net cost of $7 is still worth a few minutes of effort…
