The Iberia Plus website was down for maintenance on Saturday, May 8th, 2021. When it came back, a few surprises were found…

This is breaking news, so we will continue to update as we discover new information. However some Iberia destinations (from/to Madrid) are now going to cost you more Avios. Historically, we have regarded these redemptions as the best value use of Avios.

Anything Else?

Boston, New York and Miami all seem to be unchanged. So for now, the changes appear to be the removal of definite sweetspots – Chicago and Los Angeles were costing fewer Avios than their distance (from Madrid) would otherwise warrant.

Not great news, especially with the complete lack of advance warning, but to be fair you will still struggle to find a cheaper way to cross the Atlantic Ocean in Business Class…

Madrid Lima has increased too (from 42.5k to 51k off peak), still cheap but really bad that they do this without notice…

Would help if the old prices were included so we can see the extent of the increase. Not everyone knows the avios prices off by heart! 🙂

Very weird, it seems that (at least with Lima), it shows that now it is 51k off-peak one-way; however when you price round trip, it allows you to book it for 85k round trip (same as before). Taxes seem to be higher though (looking at the end of september is requiring 85000 avios + 273.52 euros and it used to be something much closer to 200 euros).
