Amex Travel is currently offering a £50 rebate on spends of £200+ for holders of the Amex Gold and Amex Platinum cards.
For those unfamiliar with Amex Travel, it’s a travel portal similar to the likes of lastminute, trivago etc, that lets you book flights, hotels and combined packages – often with substantial discounts. As ever, you should do your price comparisons (not least versus booking directly with the hotel, airline etc), but clearly £50 off a £200 spend is a very good start for the Amex Travel pricing.
You’ll earn a 1 bonus Membership Reward point per £1 spent on all your bookings via Amex Travel.
You can also choose to pay with your Membership Rewards points on Amex Travel (although clearly this won’t make you eligible for the £50 rebate). As an example, the points cost for the hotels in the image above are as follows:
To be blunt, these valuations of your Amex MR points at under 0.5 pence each are really not bothering with, particularly now you can effectively “cash out” your Amex points at 0.8p a point, by converting them to Avios and then on to Nectar. Given the additional £50 incentive for cash bookings, I’d strongly argue points bookings right now are a particularly bad idea (to the extent they’re ever not a bad idea…).
How to benefit from the £50 Amex Travel credit
To benefit from the offer, you simply need to go to the cardmember offers page of your Amex online account, and save the offer to your card. You then have to book the travel on or before 31 May 2021.
Based on discussions with various Gold and Platinum cardholders, this does not appear to be a targeted offer (i.e. it should be available on everyone’s account). However, if it is not on your account, a call to Amex may well sort it out for you.
Don’t have an Amex Gold or Amex Platinum card?
If the cards can work for you, now is absolutely the time to get one. There is a very generous sign up bonus being offered on both cards until 12 May 2021, as follows:
- 32,000 bonus Membership Rewards points when you sign up to the Amex Gold and spend £3,000 in your first 3 months.
- 50,000 bonus Membership Rewards points when you sign up to the Amex Platinum and spend £4,000 in your first 4 months.
Remember that there are always creative ways to meet these spend targets, too! We are happy to discuss them, just send me an email at [email protected]
