Companies are very keen these days for us all to have their apps on our devices. Offering incentives is usually the simplest way to get people to click ‘download’, and what’s better than cold hard cash?

Right now, PayPal is offering a quick and easy £5 if you are one of the first 154,000 people to download its app.

How to claim the £5

1. Activate the offer as described in the invitation to participate
2. Download the PayPal app
3. Log in to the PayPal App.

Is this a targeted offer?

Yes, the terms state that the offer is only open to eligible participants who receive an “authorised invitation”, but it does appear to be very widely targeted, so check your spam if you haven’t seen an email about it.

Perhaps a bigger concern is the following rule:

“Rewards are only available to the first 154,000 Eligible Participants that successfully claim the Reward and will no longer be awarded once the limit is reached, as determined by PayPal in its sole discretion”

The offer seems to have been running since 18th February, so there’s a good chance the limit might be reached soon. On the other hand, I only received the email a couple of hours ago. Unless PayPal are promoting offers that have already actually reached their limit (which would be extremely dubious) it’s reasonable to assume there are at least still some spaces left at the moment.

Bottom line

Check your emails (or maybe even give it a spin regardless). If you are eligible, it’s a fiver for downloading something that’s probably moderately useful anyway.

Offer Period: Starts at 12:00:00 a.m. British Standard Time (“BST”) on 18th February 2021 and ends at 11:59:59 p.m. BST on 18th March 2021 (“Offer Period”)

Eligible Participant: Open only to residents of the United Kingdom who: (1) have a United Kingdom personal PayPal account in good standing (“Valid Account”); (2) are eighteen (18) years of age or older; and (3) receive an authorised invitation to participate in the offer from PayPal (“Invitation”) (eligibility for and those who receive the Invitation will be determined by PayPal, in its sole discretion) (“Eligible Participant”).

Reward: Once the steps described below are completed and verified, Eligible Participants will earn the £5 (“Reward”). Reward will be added to the Eligible Participant’s Valid Account within approximately 72 hours after verification of Eligible Transaction (defined below). Rewards are only available to the first 154,000 Eligible Participants that successfully claim the Reward and will no longer be awarded once the limit is reached, as determined by PayPal in its sole discretion. There is a limit of one (1) Reward per Valid Account. You need to have a PayPal personal, or business PayPal account to have a balance. If you do not have or open one of those accounts, you can only transfer your Reward to your bank account or debit card linked to PayPal.

How to Qualify: To earn the Reward, Eligible Participants must complete the following steps: (1) activate the offer as described in the invitation to participate, (2) download the PayPal app, and (3) log in to the PayPal App.

Miscellaneous: Valid Account must remain in good standing from the time of participation through Reward fulfilment to redeem a Reward, as determined in PayPal’s sole discretion. PayPal may provide an alternate reward of equal value if it is unable for any reason to fulfill the Reward. PayPal reserves the right to cancel, suspend or modify this offer in part or in its entirety at any time without notice, for any reason in its sole discretion. Similar offers may run at the same time; qualification for this offer does not constitute qualification for any other offer. PayPal is not responsible and/or liable if any e-mail, Reward, Eligible Transaction, qualifying actions, or offer-related materials or correspondence are lost, fraudulent, abusive, stolen, late, incomplete, illegible, interrupted, delayed, altered, defective, misdirected, tampered with, or irregular in any way or if any participant’s e-mail address, Valid Account, or other contact information does not work, is deleted, or is changed without participant giving prior written notice to PayPal.
