British Airways (and its oneworld partner American Airlines) are currently offering some extremely good Business Class fares from Sofia (via London) to the West Coast of the USA. Options include Los Angeles and San Francisco for as little as £941 return when booking direct with the airlines:

You can also find very similar fares – sometimes even lower, to destinations like Miami and Las Vegas.

What is fantastic about these fares is that they seem to start in August and run all the way through to the end of the current booking window in January 2022. As usual, Google Flights is the easiest way to see a wide variety of dates quickly:

You could even shave a few extra quid off by booking with an Online Travel Agent via Momondo, to bring the price down to just £915:

However, given the relatively small difference in price, I would strongly recommend booking direct with either British Airways or American.

As regards earning Avios, depending on your exact route, a BA Executive Club member without elite status should end up with about 20,000 Avios heading to the West Coast and back. There is also the chance to accrue a very significant Tier Point haul, particularly if you changed planes in New York to add extra legs.

Bottom line

With the vaccination programme in the UK scheduled to be completed by the Summer, it’s not overly optimistic to hope that international travel might be back for Brits by late 2021.
