Iberia is currently offering a borderline insane Business Class fare from Rome to Santiago, Chile – widely available from just £639 return!
You can book dates through to the end of March 2021:
To see a wide range of dates quickly, Google Flights is best. The fares listed are slightly higher than going through an online travel agency, but allow you to book direct with Iberia. Given the COVID-19 situation both here in Europe and in South America, I would strongly recommend paying a little more to book direct with the airline. It really can make resolving any issues considerably easier (not that anything with Iberia is usually easy!).
The fare bucket is R, so if you credited the flights to British Airways Executive Club, a member without elite status would earn about 22,500 Avios and 400 Tier Points. If you have Gold status, you would earn ~37,000 Avios.
Bottom line
This is a great fare, but be under no illusions that travel between Europe and South America is still likely to be very difficult even by March next year. Although I quite like Iberia Business Class, dealing with Iberia’s ‘customer service’ department isn’t one for the faint-hearted either.

I believe that you can stopover in MAD for basically the same fare, or slightly more. So only the Italy to Madrid flight needs to take place in March – you can continue onwards to Chile in summer.
That said, I imagine that vouchers, refunds, etc. becomes extremely messy if you have started your trip (i.e. are notionally in Madrid) but then you need to change or cancel the South American legs.

Great point though! I remain optimistic that things will recover quite well towards the second half of next year.

Amazing fares even if service, food and drinks on IB J flights are somewhat crap, at least it is a decent lie flat seat so you will travel in comfort and also on a newish plane as the kitchen roll A340’s are off to the scrapyard…
Joe Deeney says
Service is very much hit or miss. I’ve had some of the kindest/most natural and some of the laziest/rudest with IB. Food and drink isn’t gourmet, but I usually quite like it. As you say though, for the price it’s hard to imagine a better fare.

I’m not seeing anything less than GBP1500 now. Is it gone already?
Joe Deeney says
Yep, looks like it’s gone now unfortunately.
