Today’s Advent Calendar prize gives you another chance to win a pocket-sized piece of British aviation history: a Royal Air Force ‘Aviationtag’!
Each Aviationtag is unique and is actually made from the skin of a specific decommissioned aircraft. They can be used to tag baggage, as keychains or simply as a piece of airline memorabilia.
The prize today was created from a Royal Air Force Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport aircraft, that was in operation for over 50 years all over the world (RAF registration XV209).
“Our Hercules is the Hercules C.3A for Special Forces operations. During the Falklands War it was also additionally equipped with an aerial refueling nozzle.
In 2013, the XV209 was retired from service and then ultimately recycled in St. Athan (Wales) in 2018. Now it is embarking on its second life as our Hercules C-130 Aviationtag edition!”
