Fast Track to Oneworld Sapphire Status

Oneworld alliance partner Malaysia Airlines is offering a “fast track to Gold” to members of its Enrich frequent flyer programme. Enrich Gold is equivalent to BA’s Silver – both being “Oneworld Sapphire”.

To qualify for the fast track, you must book specific flights between now and 16 September, 2019 – for travel up until 30 July, 2020. Only itineraries departing London will qualify.

You can find full details of the promotion by clicking here.

Is it Worth It?

…probably not. Those readers who are familiar with British Airways Executive Club are probably aware that you can earn Tier Points on Malaysia Airlines. You would earn:

  • 240 Tier Points for “Business Suite” (F/A/P) between London and Kuala Lumpur
  • 160 Tier Points for Business Class between London and Kuala Lumpur

For Australia, BAEC members would earn an additional 210 / 140 Tier Points for the connecting flight from Kuala Lumpur to Australia / New Zealand.

For Southeast Asia, BAEC members would earn an additional 60 / 40 Tier Points for the connecting flight from Kuala Lumpur to places like Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, etc.

In other words, you would reach 600 Tier Points with a return trip to Australia… Add four flights on British Airways or Iberia and you’ll have earned Silver status with Executive Club (i.e. Oneworld Sapphire).

Conclusion

I have not seen anything that suggests that Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich programme is worth investigating. So, even though Enrich is promoting a “fast track”, in fact you could also fast track almost all of the way to BA Silver by taking the exact same flights.
