TAP Portugal is offering some superb Business Class fares from Dublin to San Francisco – starting at just £1,039 return!
As you can see on Google Flights, availability is excellent from mid-June until the end of the year:
You can usually shave a bit off the fares listed there by using sites like Momondo and SkyScanner to search through the online travel agencies.
The price is excellent, but even cooler is that the aircraft scheduled to be used on the long haul legs (at least on the dates I looked at in mid August), is one of TAP’s brand new A330-900neo planes. These aircraft feature TAP’s new Business Class product, which actually looks great!
TAP Portugal is a member of Star Alliance, so you can earn a decent stack of miles from the flights too. Depending on where you decide to credit them, you should be looking at about 16,500-27,000 redeemable miles.
Bottom line
Great price, good product, popular destination = superb deal (even if you do have to hop over to Dublin first!).

LOL. I had been looking at that fare for a few days now. You can also book a one way from Dublin for roughly half price.
You can also book Manchester or London for a couple hundred pounds more.

🙂
I’d forgotten about the TAP one ways actually – good thinking.

I thought about writing up this one, as well as some Scandinavia offers to Vancouver. But not only do you need to position, but you usually need to overnight in Lisbon to get the best pricing.

I cant get this to price at all from Manchester. Tried lots of dates in Sept and Oct. The individual flights have space but the combination will only price in economy.
Really fancied it but Dublin… if my flight outbound man-dub has an issue, mis-connect for any reason, then I lose the entire trip so it’s very risky.
Dave says
Ok, very odd. Google, Expedia and Flytap wont price it for the dates I want. Skyscanner and then travelup and Opodo will price it perfectly.
Craig Sowerby says
Try an overnight in LIS going west. When I was searching for August that seemed to be a requirement for the cheapest pricing. (as it’s obviously quite inconvenient)
Dave says
Yes, that is with an overnight in LIS. It’s not that it wont come up as a cheap route, it just won’t price the ticket.
It gets weirder. The only sites which price the dates are Kayak which leads to Lastminute.com, Skyscanner which leads into opodo/edreams and travelup.
Google/ITA/Expedia/FlyTap and the rest say no. I’ve just called Trailfinders and they can’t price the route in Sept either.
What’s the deal with the 3 sites that can sell it, why are they so special? And should I trust Lastmin to sell me a ticket that TAP themselves can’t?
Dave says
Answering my own post but I think I know what’s going on.
Searching MAN-LIS-SFO as a one way after 9th june on Google gives no availability. That’s the launch date of TAPs new LIS-SFO service.
Looks like someone stuffed the inventory upload to either Sabre or Galileo which explains why one lot of vendors can see it and most can’t.
