After what feels like a gap of about a century, a new Tesco Clubcard to Avios bonus has finally been announced! – If you’ve been diligently saving up your Clubcard Points for a big bonus though, don’t get too excited:
Did you know that if you use your Clubcard points before 15 November, we’ll give you a bonus 1,000 Avios reward? That’s an extra boost for your Avios balance to put towards your next holiday.
All you need to do is shop at Tesco and turn at least £5.00 worth of Clubcard points into Avios. Remember, you’ll also collect 600 Avios for every £2.50 worth of Clubcard points you use.
As you can see above, to bag the 1,000 bonus Avios all you have to do is transfer at least £5 worth of Tesco Clubcard vouchers across to British Airways Avios, in a single transaction, before 15th November 2018.
If you transferred exactly £5 of vouchers across, you’d end up with 2,200 Avios (1,200 standard + 1,000 bonus), which is an excellent conversion rate.
The terms state that the “Bonus Avios will be credited to the Eligible Participant’s BAEC account within 28 days of the campaign ending”, so don’t count on receiving the bonus Avios anytime soon – though I imagine there’s a reasonable chance they will actually post a lot sooner than that.
The email I received started off with the line, “We’ve noticed that you haven’t turned your Tesco Clubcard points into Avios recently“, which suggested it might be a targeted offer, but the terms are quite clear that it’s open to all: ” An Eligible Participant is a person aged 18 or over and is a British Airways Executive Club (“BAEC”) Member”.
Bottom line
It may not be the most generous Clubcard to Avios conversion bonus we’ve ever seen, but it’s great to see any sort of bonus offer back. I’ll certainly be transferring £5 across myself.
Tesco Clubcard to Avios Conversion Terms
This promotion is only open to Eligible Participants. An Eligible Participant is a person aged 18 or over and is a British Airways Executive Club (“BAEC”) Member (membership Terms and Conditions apply).
By taking part in this promotion, Eligible Participants confirm that they accept these Terms and Conditions.
The Eligible Participant will need to exchange their Tesco Clubcard Vouchers into Avios between 2 October and 15 November 2018 to collect 1,000 bonus Avios.
To qualify for the 1,000 bonus Avios an Eligible Participant must exchange a minimum of £5.00 in Tesco Clubcard Vouchers in a single transaction, during the Promotional Period.
The Promotional Period is 00:01 on 2 October 2018 to 23:59 on 15 November 2018.
The bonus Avios will only be awarded once per British Airways Executive Club account.
Base Avios will be earned during the Promotional Period in addition to the bonus Avios
Bonus and base Avios is non-redeemable for cash.
Bonus Avios is issued subject to BAEC Terms and Conditions.
Bonus Avios will be credited to the Eligible Participant’s BAEC account within 28 days of the campaign ending.
The promoters reserve the right to withdraw the promotion or amend these Terms and Conditions without prior notice at any time, for whatever reason, and without any liability to customers for doing so.

do you know if we can do a second transaction of another £5 in order to get an extra 1k avios?
Nope – 1 transaction only unfortunately. If you’ve got family members who also have some tesco points though, they could transfer £5 and get the bonus too (and BA makes it possible to pool Avios in a household account of course)
Has anyone received the 100 Virgin FC miles for the auto opt in back in August? I haven’t seen anything come through yet!

One of the nice things about this promo was that I didn’t realise I had £23 of Clubcard vouchers available, I thought my account was empty!

I received an email yesterday stating 20% bonus on auto converted club card points to avios. It wasn’t clear if it was just for points EARNED in the quarter ending 18-10-18 or if it would include all the other vouchers sitting in the account. Anyone else get this email?

For every £2.50 of Tesco Clubcard Vouchers earned within the existing statement period up until 18 October and automatically exchanged will receive 720 Avios.
Bonus Avios will be awarded with your standard automatic opt in Avios award.

Cheers! – very interesting. The terms are absolutely clear, but my gut says it’s actually meant to be targeted and they just haven’t written the terms properly.
Can I just clarify that it is just points gathered in this quarter that will get the bonus or will it be all points sitting on the account?
The bonus, assuming you are targeted, appears to only apply to “auto-converted” Avios, which would cover only points earned this quarter.
However you could spend any existing large denomination vouchers on something small, like £2.50 to Virgin miles or £5 for the Avios bonus. Any excess funds on your voucher would then be recredited to your Clubcard account, and would then be auto-converted with the bonus at the next statement.
That said, it does seem a bit risky to me as it’s unclear whether the bonus only applies to targeted members or to anybody who sets up autoconvert to Avios…
Does it show 1200 + 1000 bonus on the Tesco website cause set up the transfer, it shows only 1200 for £5. I haven’t received the targeted email.
I don’t want to transfer right away in case there is some ambiguity.
Is this a targeted offer? I went on the Clubcard website to convert and it made no mention of it?
My wife received the 1000 bonus email and converted £5 of vouchers. The Clubcard confirmation email says 1200 Avios and we expected the 1000 bonus to be added within 28 days. However, checking her exec club account it shows a credit if 1600 Avios – which doesn’t make any sense.
Anyone else received them yet?
Awk, does your wife have a Tesco platinum credit card? This may be the reason, although the norm is to receive 600 Avios per £2.50 worth of vouchers many moons ago (might have been when Tesco bank took over handling the credit card from RBS) that my conversion rate was increased to 800 Avios per £2.50 and remains that way to this date. My transfers always show the standard rate but I get credited with my boosted rate.
Has anyone who converted £5 worth of vouchers but had not received the bonus 1000 Avios email received the bonus?

I have received my 1000 bonus Avios for the redemption I made on the 7 November even though I did not receive the email.
17th. December 2019 and I’m still waiting for the 1000 avios.
Here’s what Tesco says:
“I am really sorry about the delay I mentioned in my previous email.
We still have no further update on when this is likely to be resolved but our IT teams are working very hard to get it resolved.
