Tesco Clubcard members should have received their latest statements, covering the quarter up until early August. Unlike previous quarters, however, there is no conversion bonus on offer from Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. Instead, we get a prize draw, which you can read about by clicking here…
But never mind a prize draw with difficult odds… it appears that the 1,000 mile opt-in bonus is back again. Of course, you don’t ever want to automatically convert your Clubcard points into Virgin Atlantic Miles, especially since conversion bonuses aren’t guaranteed to happen.
What you want to do is:
- Step One, sign up for Auto Opt-In
- Step Two, wait for 1,000 miles to post to your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club account
- Step Three, turn OFF Auto Opt-In (make sure to do this well ahead of the next statement, which should be late October / early November 2018)
Setting up Auto Opt-In is simple. Simply log-in to your Tesco Clubcard account, visit the “Voucher Schemes” section of “Account Management”, choose “Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles” and enter your Flying Club membership number. Don’t worry, any existing Clubcard vouchers will remain as vouchers and won’t be automatically converted.
If it still works – YMMV but it often does – you’ll receive 1,000 free miles at zero cost to you. Pay attention to InsideFlyer UK and I’ll even remind you when to turn off the Auto Opt-in – so that you receive vouchers instead of miles, and can earn 1,000 miles again and again…
Eventually Tesco and Virgin Atlantic will stop this, won’t they? But until they do, I’m going to keep opting in to miles and then changing my mind a few weeks later. 😉

From recollection, when do these 1000 VA Miles post to your account?
Craig Sowerby says
4-6 weeks I think
Andrew H says
It’s been ages since I’ve done this, so can someone tell me – do you need a minimum amount of Clubcard points in your account for this to trigger with Virgin? Because I’ve barely got any.
Craig Sowerby says
Doesn’t matter. I haven’t had many Tesco points since the crazy bonus deals dried up.
Andrew H says
Thanks!
Tilly71 says
I think its 150 points min.
Andrew H says
Well I’ve got a paltry 54, so I’ll find out in 4-6 weeks which of you is correct!
Craig Sowerby says
It’s 150 to be issued with vouchers. But you don’t need vouchers to sign up for Opt-in miles. The last few times I’ve had less than 100 points as well but still received my 1,000 miles…
And of course you don’t actually want to still be opted-in to direct miles conversion by the time the next statement cycle is run.
Tilly71 says
Thanks for confirming.

Mine are dated 14th June.

Has this now ended as I can’t see it advertised?

Still seems to be running until 30 September.
I haven’t seen my 1,000 miles yet though…

Have we any idea when (or if) these bonus miles will appear as I would like to take advantage of the “ahem generous” BA 1000 mile bonus recently launched. Can we stand all this excitement ! ! ! !
Craig Sowerby says
I’m starting to wonder about that myself. I’m going to give it another 2 weeks or so.
I’d have to check, but I’m pretty sure that you can convert existing vouchers to BA, even though your account is set to auto-convert future points into VS miles.
Katie B says
Hi Craig – my Tesco bonus went on my account yesterday.
Craig Sowerby says
🙂 Reminder post coming in the next day or two…
Andrew H says
I just checked my account. For some reason they’ve given me 2000 points instead of 1k…
Craig Sowerby says
Shhh… post coming tomorrow about that. 🙂
Andrew H says
Maybe you shouldn’t in case they realise their error and reverse it…
Craig Sowerby says
The thought did occur to me, but I’ve run the same 1,000 mile post repeatedly and nobody seems to care. So I’d rather get the word out to readers rather than do nothing out of fear of killing the travel hack…
