The always interesting Extreme Hotel Deals (EHD) shared a great tip recently that I’ve come across in various circumstances myself – and it’s something well worth being aware of: hotels sometimes charge the same (and on rare occasions, less) for suites or other premium rooms as they do for standard rooms.
EHD was writing specifically about some IHG hotels that offer suites and/or executive rooms for the same number of IHG Rewards Points as a standard room. The phenomena is actually wider than any particular hotel group though, and sometimes crops up with cash rates too, so the key point is to keep your eyes peeled when booking!
You can find the full list of IHG hotels EHD covered here, but I thought I’d quickly run through the UK options:
Crowne Plaza Liverpool John Lennon Airport
As you can see, it’s possible to book an Executive Suite with Club Lounge access, or even the 2-floor Ambassador Suite (with veranda and Beatles theme) for just 20,000 IHG Points per night!
Crowne Plaza Harrogate
You can sometimes book a 1-bed Suite at the Crowne Plaza Harrogate for the standard room rate of 20,000 IHG Points, though availability can be a bit tricky to find. ‘Executive Room’ availability is usually easier to track down, though I’m not really sure what exactly the ‘Executive’ perks are.
Holiday Inn London – Camden Lock
Penthouse Studios on the top floor of the Holiday Inn Camden Lock, with great views (pictured in the feature image at the top of the page) of Camden, are regularly bookable for 40,000 IHG Points – the same as a standard room.
Bottom line
Next time you’re booking a hotel, look out for the chance to book a better room for the same (or a lower) amount of cash or points as a standard room – there are more opportunities to do so than you might think!
