BA is currently offering nice Business Class fares from Amsterdam to Bangkok (via London Heathrow) – starting at just £1200 return.
Availability is superb from the end of August 2018 all the way through to the end of the current booking schedule in May 2019.
The best way to find the cheapest fares is to start your search using Google Flights, in order to see a wide range of dates at once, then check specific dates on Momondo, Kayak and Skyscanner to see whether they can find any cheaper options available via online travel agencies (they can often knock ~£100 off!).
Where to credit the flights
If you credited to British Airways Executive Club, you would end up with about 20,500 Avios (worth ~£200) and 360 Tier Points.
As usual, I’d suggest crediting British Airways Business Class flights to Alaska Mileage Plan instead, because you earn more miles – and the miles are more valuable. AMS-LHR-BKK return should get you about 32,000 Alaska Mileage Plan Miles, which I’d value at ~£520.
Bottom line
Having to reposition to Amsterdam isn’t ideal, but it’s usually cheap and easy to fly there from most parts of the UK.
For comparison, starting in London and flying direct to Bangkok looks to be about £1,900+, so I’d see repositioning as an opportunity to have a ‘free’ night or 2 in Amsterdam and still save hundreds per person on top!

Amsterdam also now possible by Eurostar from London, with baggage included as standard, if you fancy switching things up.

Good point!

These prices have been available every month for 2 years now, and are priced in Euros, so were even more attractive pre Brexit

I need the TPs on BA so is there a way to collect the TPs but the Alaska Miles?
Joe Deeney says
Unfortunately not Ben – that would be amazing though!
