Yesterday, I wrote about the latest iteration of the Groupon offer in Spain. Regular readers have probably taken advantage of this deal several times over the last couple of years.
My regular advice has long been to visit the IberiaPluStore to earn whatever bonus miles are available from Groupon. At the moment, the offer there is 11 Avios per euro spent.
However, a new method has surfaced, thanks to my good friend Hernan at Ultima Llamada and one of his very well-informed readers. This method allows you to earn a whopping 22 Avios per euro spent! (possibly just for the duration of the “double Avios” weekend, but potentially until 31 March, 2018)
The culprit is Avios.com. As you may be aware, IAG is setting up Avios.com to be a common platform for the entire company. Because Vueling has recently been moved over to the Avios.com platform – read here for details – it is now operational in Spain.
Here’s how you can access it from the UK… Visit https://www.avios.com/es/es. You should end up on a page that looks like this:
Click on “INICIAR SESION” on top right hand side to log-in.
You will probably be taken to your home page for the United Kingdom. But that’s OK because you are now logged in…
Then you can click on this link – https://shopping.avios.com/en/entertainment-and-leisure/groupon-es? – with some luck you should jump straight to this page (and in a mixture of English and Spanish to boot)
From there you set your city to Madrid and search for Avios as usual.
This is obviously slightly more complex than usual, but it certainly might be worth it when an extra 11 Avios per euro are on offer… Buena suerte dear readers…

Great! This method also works but 2000 avios sold out already!
I’ll try again next time!
Thanks

Wow! This deal is obviously becoming more and more visible within the travel hacking world. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the 2,000 Avios packs sell quite so quickly…
Hopefully the 22 Avios sticks around until March, although it looks suspiciously like double the existing offer of 11 so might just be around for the rest of today…

2,000 Avios packs seems to have become available again in last half an hour – I saw them as sold out earlier this morning and have just been able to purchase one so grab them quickly! Couldn’t get any of the posted coupons in the previous InsideFlyer article to work (they are not single use only, I assume?) but have found a couple that do now work for 20% off by Googling (some Spanish definitely helps here) so it is possible to take the price down further still.

Brilliant news about the 2,000 Avios packs. They were definitely gone about 60-90 minutes ago…
Yeah, the discount codes seem to be limited use. But indeed a google search on “codigos descuento groupon” should give you a few options to try out. If you find a working one, the 8,000 Avios pack becomes rather more appealing.

* You will receive a lower reward than the aforementioned when buying deals of 2,000, 4,000, 8,000, 12,000 or 20,000 Avios (or any amount of Avios).

Groupon ES nos ha informado que realizó una compra el 24/02/18 y que los Avios correspondientes se encuentran pendientes de aprobación. 152 Avios.
It looks like my Saturday transaction tracked for 8 Avios per euro… YMMV…
