A month or two into every new year, the major hotels chains tend to move some hotels from one award category to another. Ideally, this happens with enough advance warning that members can preemptively book at current award pricing. The latest award category news (with some forewarning) is that Club Carlson has announced changes to 120+ hotels that will come into effect on 1 March, 2018.
It appears that 50 or so hotels will be increasing in category, whilst 70 or so will decrease. (although I am quite sure that most readers care as little as I do about the award category of a Country Inn in the middle of the US somewhere)
As a reminder, Club Carlson’s award categories look like this:
- Category 1 – 9,000 points per night
- Category 2 – 15,000 points per night
- Category 3 – 28,000 points per night
- Category 4 – 38,000 points per night
- Category 5 – 44,000 points per night
- Category 6 – 50,000 points per night
- Category 7 – 70,000 points per night
You can click here to find the full list of category changes.
Some of the “highlights” are:
- Cassa Hotel NY 45th Street in Manhattan moving down to Cat. 6 (50K per night)
- Radisson Blu Edwardian Grafton Hotel in London will move up to Cat. 7 to match nearly all of CC’s hotels in London, although by most accounts this hotel is not nearly as nice
- Radisson Blu Edwardian Manchester Hotel will move up to Category 7 as well
- Park Inn by Radisson Aberdeen will drop from Category 6 all the way to Category 3, reflecting the declining fortunes of the North Sea oil business
Should you wish to book any of the listed hotels that will be increasing, I suggest that you book your award nights before 1 March.
Are there any hotels on the list that interest you?
