Regular readers will know that each month the frequent flyer scheme for Lufthansa, Austrian, Swiss etc – Miles & More – offers ‘Mileage Bargains’. These are heavily discounted award tickets in economy and business class to certain destinations. Because of the relatively high taxes and surcharges on economy redemptions, I will primarily look at business class options from the UK. Those in the regions will be pleased to learn that Miles & More long-haul redemptions already include your feeder leg to Frankfurt or Munich free of charge.

Bottom Line
I encountered no availability issues whatsoever on dummy bookings!
Not all of these are great deals because of the relatively high taxes and surcharges. Given that economy class redemptions tend to attract around 300 GBP in surcharges, I would personally only book business class redemptions.
Long-haul business class redemptions tend to cost north of 500 GBP in taxes and surcharges, but you will be getting value for money on the longer routes, where cash tickets can easily cost 3000 GBP. For example, Manchester to Seoul in business is 70,000 miles plus 572.84 GBP for random dates in December; cash tickets on the same flights are currently selling for 3094.24 GBP.

Note that LOT Polish Airlines have their own mileage bargains (Monday sMILEs) every 2nd Monday and Austrian has now launched Mileage bargains for Fridays.
Both of these are more restrictive in routing, however, and only offer Y class.
