Just a quick heads-up that’s there’s currently some great Business Class fares between Helsinki and New York on Air France/KLM, starting at ~ £725.
There are two great things about this fare:
- The price!
- The flexibility – the fares are available from the end of March through to the start of June. The real trick though is that you can stay in the USA for as few as 4 nights or for months before having to come home – as long as the outbound flight leaves during the dates above.
Other destinations in the US might well be available too.
I don’t live in Helsinki…
Fair point – it’s not the most convenient way to get to New York, but the price is very good. You could quite easily pay more for Economy during expensive times of the year.
As regards getting to Helsinki and back, you can pay as little as £50 Return (£100 is more typical), or use 6,500-7,500 Avios each way.
Bearing in mind that you will earn ~20,000 Flying Blue Miles, I’d say the ‘net’ cost of these flights really does work about £725-£775 even if you have to stay overnight in Helsinki (assuming you value FB Miles at about 1p each).
If you’re chasing Elite status with BA, paid Business Class fares to Helsinki are usually (relatively) reasonable too and earn 160 Tier Points Return
