I was looking at some hotel options earlier for a trip to Dusseldorf next month, so did a bit of comparing.

The best rate I could find on the IHG desktop website was 240 Euros.

Using the IHG app I can see a rate for the same room on the same night for 166 Euros – that’s a pretty chunky saving!

The other app deals in the city were less impressive, but still cheaper than the desktop site.

The Hotel Indigo was 92 Euros on the desktop site and 85 Euros through the app.

The cheapest rate at the Holiday Inn City Toulouser Allee was 62.55 Euros on the desktop site and 60 Euros through the app.

You can’t get 8% cashback from Quidco booking through the app, so compare the prices carefully when working out what the best overall value is.

You should also check out the MasterCard partner rate (which anyone can use) that usually offers the best prices at IHG hotels if booking 21 days or more in advance.

Bottom line

The sale offers some genuine discounts, but still might not always be the best option once you consider cashback or other booking discounts.

On the other hand, if you need to make any app bookings as part of your Accelerate targets, this is a great time to book – although the overlapping period is pretty limited because Accelerate ends on 15th December and you can only book dates for 2nd December onwards through the app sale.
