Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG), the loyalty scheme of Starwood hotels, is widely regarded as having one of the most valuable “loyalty currencies” available. There are a number of reasons for this, including the 1:1 ratio for transfer to many airline miles, with a generous 5K bonus when you transfer 20K.

As such, any opportunity to earn easy or bonus SPG points should be considered, as you’re potentially getting really good value for money by virtue of these extra points. One such bonus opportunity is currently available with SPG’s new collection of “independent” luxury hotels, Tribute Portfolio.

Register here by 16 October 2016, and all stays at Tribute Portfolio between 1 August and 31 October will earn you double SPG starpoints. Given that these hotels are not cheap, if you plan to stay at one and you’re a points collector, this double points promo can lead to a serious extra wedge of Starpoints (the points earning rate is set out below).

What’s the earning rate?

If you register for this promo, you will earn four Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent, being a doubling of the standard earning rate of two Starpoints per US$1. Accordingly, if you have status with SPG, your Elite-level Starpoint earnings rate will not therefore be the reference point for the doubling (for example, Gold level SPG members earn 3 Starpoints per US$1). You will obviously still earn your Elite level rate, but the “doubling” will only be based on this being a rate of two SPG points per US$1.

While this offer can be stacked with other Starpoints promotions, again you will only have the base two points per US$1 doubled.

The bonus Starpoints will post to your account 2–4 weeks after the qualifying stay posts.

Don’t forget that SPG offers an excellent little bonus for dining at SPG hotels even where you are not a guest. Not only will you earn some easy SPG points, you’ll also get a discount on the meal. There’s a couple of very good SPG hotel restaurants near me, and I have used this option countless times. While none are currently available, there are also fairly frequent double points on dining offers, too.
