British Airways are currently offering some good Club Europe fares to quite a few destinations. You need to book by 17th May, but availability doesn’t seem to be that great for the cheapest fares, so I would book as soon as possible.
The lowest fares are just £100.00 each way, and destinations include Madrid, Mallorca, Amsterdam, Paris, Hamburg, Munich and others.
For those of you chasing status Tier Points, Club Europe to Malta can be had for £135.00 each way and clocks up 80 Tier points. BA Silver status requires 600 Tier Points, so four cheap Returns to Malta and you’re sorted!
These are good prices, and make using Avios on some of these routes quite poor value – particularly to destinations in Zones 2 or 3 – even if you aren’t interested in status.
For example, a Return flight to Malta in Club Europe using Avios would cost 34,000 Avios + £50.00 off-peak, or 40,000 Avios + £50.00 Peak.
40,000 Avios to save £220.00 values Avios at just over 0.5p each, which really isn’t great.
It’s also worth pointing out that if you’re Avios rich and want to use some of them up, BA now allows you to use 15,000 Avios to take £100.00 off a Return in Club Europe. You can therefore get flights to Malta for just £170.00 and 15,000 Avios, or to some of the other destinations for just £100.00 and 15,000 Avios.
Remember that you also earn Avios on these flights too (3,844 for a BA Executive Club member without elite status in the Malta example), which means the value is actually even better!
Club Europe isn’t anything to get too excited about, but I always enjoy visiting BA’s lounges before a flight, and in some cases the difference in price between Economy and Club Europe is negligible – so why not treat yourself!
