The UK press recently picked up on a fairly comical rip-off by an opportunistic Uber driver: charging a drunk passenger £102 for a journey that should have been no more than £15.

To put it bluntly, Daniel Kaizen got absolutely blasted at his leaving do, then fell asleep in the back of his Uber ride. However, rather than get Daniel to his (evidently much needed) bed as quickly as he could, the Uber driver then decided to take him on a 20-mile detour around London.

You can see the route here:

There is a happy ending though.

Uber has given the passenger a full refund and, of course, reminded would-be passengers that (unlike other transport options) “Uber offers transparent receipts with a record of every trip and a map of the route taken so if there is an issue it can be resolved”.

There’s probably a lesson learned in here somewhere, although I’m not entirely sure what it is.

Hailo does this along with a detailed breakdown of fare & tip. The really cool feature after finishing your trip is the ability to call or text your driver to reclaim any items you may have left in the cab. The bonus of using Hailo In London, Barcelona & Madrid is earning Avios.
