I'm considering another mattress run situation, again to max out the latest Accelerate points, but this time ti would require 2 stays, totalling about £80 between them. It would earn me 33,000 points, plus whatever I get for the stays.

To buy 33,000 on the IHG site would cost around £250 I think, but using the common valuation often quoted on here of around £0.36 they would be around £119 worth of points.

So even at £80 for the stays I would be winning; anyone want to give me a contrarian view before I make non-refundable bookings ?

I would not have to travel far for these, so no travel costs to factor in.

I'd say go for it! Wow, where are you finding IHG hotels for £40 per night in July (I'm assuming in the UK)? Everything near me is super expensive for the rest of the month - I'm glad I completed my mattress runs last month when prices were much lower.

I usually find Friday nights are cheapest but the last couple accelerate offers have required me to do weekend stays (2 nights of which one has to be saturday) so they've bumped up my cost a fair bit.

Depends on the hassle, but if it's somewhere you can just pop in I'd say go for it!

Definitely UK. Looking close to Leeds, and Wakefield, just off the M1, is £40 for teh dates I could check in.

No hassle. For the second stay, I would pretty much be driving past the entrance on my way home, mid afternoon, right around check-in time.

Checked in, and doing a few work emails while having a few cups of tea and the complimentary Kit Kat chunky in my exec room. No hassle on check in at all, and was surprised to be told that breakfast was allegedly inlcuded, in my pre-paid rate of £39.06 ! Pity I'm not staying, as I love a free breakfast ! Maybe they made a mistake as usually pre-paid, advance, non-refundable rates don't include it.

    Great one!
You can usually find cheapish stays in HIX near motorways. When there is a decent sale on you can get some stays as low as £27-£35

Fascinating read. Might have to pay a closer attention to the accelerate program and try a mattress run myself :)

Cathy I'm just checking back and saw your post. Sorry I didn't reply months ago. I found the original article which inspired me, from Craig Sowerby, so here is the link:
