I stayed at the Leopold Hotel in Sheffield a week last Sunday so here are my thoughts. The hotel is in the city centre with major chains only a few steps away. After checking-in I was escorted to my room and shown what it had to offer. I was brought a complimentary drink from the bar as well as two chocolate cakes. I found a personalised SLH welcome letter on the desk and a free SLH luggage tag. I was in room 185, which is on the top floor. It's large with one double bed and two singles. There's a desk, a separate table, a sofa, air con (quiet), a fridge with complimentary still and sparkling water, and an espresso machine. The bathroom was large and offered plenty of toiletries including shaving kits and shower caps. Also a dressing gown and slippers. Sometimes I have stayed in hotels where I can't get the water to run hot enough but here I had the reverse in that I couldn't get the bath to run cold water (presumably because it had been running hot for ten minutes!). There was a music festival going on at the time but the room was so high up I didn't hear a thing. There was only one window in the room - a slanted one in the roof, so no view - but this didn't bother me. Continental breakfast was free, and pleasant enough, although cereals were limited. The free wifi was also fine. Not slow. Overall, definitely worth it for £50-£60. A few days after my stay, SLH extended my 'Loved' status an extra year up to March 2018. I also qualified for some Avios but I don't know how many yet.
I'm gold already but according to my account will be "member" in 2019. I've just applied for permanent gold via Amex plat, will I get gold extended until Mar 20 without the need to make any stays?
Certainly no stays required, but whether it all tracks and updates properly without a nudge or 2 is less certain.
