https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...for-insolvency-after-etihad-withdraws-support I have 3000 miles with them, which will vanish I assume.
Interesting - I'm not entirely sure because I think TopBonus is actually owned by Etihad separate from Air Berlin these days (I could be wrong though!)
Hmmm, not good news - I had hoped Etihad would keep TopBonus going. Certainly something to keep an eye on.
I almost wrote a "keep calm and carry on" post with Alitalia, US airlines etc. as comparisons. But no... topbonus shut down and miles surely gone... And the best source of Oneworld status matches with it.
Yes, seems to be that Etihad structured the TopBonus deal in an 'interesting' way in order to provide cash to Air Berlin without falling foul of ownership rules, rather than doing what was best for TopBonus as a separate company.
Some long haul flights being culled in a couple of weeks. Strangely, 200 Air Berlin pilots called in 'sick' today... http://www.independent.co.uk/travel...-dusseldorf-glasgow-liquidation-a7942951.html
Yes, just a coincidence I'm sure! I'll genuinely miss Air Berlin - I had a particularly happy delay once on a birthday trip in Biz Class back in the 25k Avios days, which mostly involved the cabin manager force feeding me champagne while I watched a load of films.
