Hilton Honors Makes Some (Genuinely Good!) Enhancements…

In the travel hacking world, the word ‘enhancement’ can bring even the bravest points/miles collectors out in a cold sweat. Favourite loyalty programmes can be destroyed overnight as a result of companies “making changes members will love!”. Historically, Hilton Honors has been as guilty as most other loyalty programmes when it comes to deceptively spinning negative changes as enhancements, so I’m relieved to tell you that the latest changes are genuinely positive.

What’s changed?

Nothing massive, but a number of small improvements should hopefully lead to members earning more points from stays in future. According to William Sanders, the official Hilton Honors Ambassador over on Flyertalk, the following policies are now in force:

  1. Members will now be able to earn Base Points on up to four rooms on eligible multi-room reservations, an increase from the current two rooms.
  2. There will no longer be a limit on the number of base points a member can earn per stay. Previously, Members were unable to accrue more than 100K Base Points per stay at certain brands.
  3. Members will now be able to earn points on eligible hotel incidental spend at all of Hilton Portfolio brands. Previously, Members staying at Hampton by Hilton, Tru by Hilton, Home2 Suites by Hilton and Homewood Suites by Hilton properties earned points on room rate only.

Bottom line

These are small but thoughtful changes by Hilton Honors that get rid of some previously annoying anomalies.

I cant honestly claim to have ever spent enough on a Hilton stay to have been affected by the 100k cap, but being able to earn points on up to 4 rooms is great, and I’ve certainly missed out on points when buying snacks/drinks at Hamptons.

What do you think about the changes?
