Thanks to more fuel-efficient aircraft and the competition from low cost carriers like Norwegian, transatlantic flights have rarely been cheaper than they are right now.

GodSaveThePoints recently flagged some great fares with Virgin Atlantic from London Heathrow to New York JFK, starting at £266 return:

Availability for the lowest fares looks good from October 2019 all the way through to March 2020.

Obviously ~£266 is an excellent price, but it’s particularly interesting because Virgin will be flying its brand new A350-1000 aircraft on the route from September onwards (4 flights per day from 5th Nov) – so try to make sure you book one of those.

If you prefer oneworld airlines, flights with British Airways and American can be had for even less!

I know it says Finnair (codeshare), but the flights above are actually direct flights operated by BA on the outbound and AA on the way back.

For the very cheapest option, you may want to consider Norwegian:

Given that BA/AA and Virgin include food and drinks and are only £15-20 more, I’d argue that they offer the better value here though.

Finally, if Manchester is more convenient for you than London, both United and Virgin have direct flights available for not too much more than the options from London:

Conclusion

New York is an incredible city to visit – and with fares this low, it can make sense to go now, even if you only have time for a long weekend!
