The Temptation of Buying Choice Privileges Points…

Choice Privileges is an often-neglected loyalty programme. This comes as no surprise… your first instinct was surely to think of some nasty Econolodge or Quality Inn… when many people collect miles and points in order to aspire to a higher standard of luxury.

Yet Choice Privileges has its gems. And I find myself reminded of that fact when an interesting opportunity to buy points comes along…

This offer has been live for over a month, and has been extended until 29 April, 2019. Members can receive a 50% bonus when buying 30,000 points or more. The annual maximum is 50,000 points.

If you buy at least 30,000 points, you will pay 0.73 US cents per point – that’s 0.56p.

The Temptation…

So far so yawn, right???  But recently I have been looking for a hotel in Oslo, Norway.  It isn’t easy for me in Oslo. No Hyatt… No Hilton… No IHG… One not-at-all-central Moxy (Marriott)… But there is a hotel called “The Thief”, part of Choice’s “Ascend Collection”.

Currently ranked Number 3 on Tripadvisor, this hotel oozes luxury. And you’ll pay an appropriately eye-watering rate…

A random summer weekend

Or you could pay with points…

20,000 points would cost you the equivalent of £112 if you buy 30,000 + 15,000 bonus for £252 before 29 April.  Breakfast is also included, saving you from Scandinavia’s £20 coffees… Not only that, I expect that I could squeeze out a bit of cashback as well – click here for further details.

Conclusion

This promotion is helpfully coinciding with a trip where I am lacking my usual options. Besides that, a luxury hotel at a bargain price? That’s what InsideFlyer is all about…
