American Express Membership Rewards Points are one of my favourite types of points/miles – largely due to their flexibility. Being able to transfer to a wide range of different hotel and airline partners is great, but knowing how long each of those transfers actually takes in practice is also important, particularly for booking airline award space that can get snapped up very quickly. I’ve therefore been running some experiments to see what the transfer times to Amex’s various partners really are. So far, I’ve looked at British Airways Avios, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Delta SkyMilesSingapore Airlines KrisFlyerEtihad Guest, KLM/Air France Flying Blue, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, Hilton Honors, Marriott Bonvoy and now it’s time for Radisson– so if you’re wondering how long it takes to transfer American Express Membership Rewards Points to Radisson Rewards, you’ve come to the right place!

How long does it take to transfer American Express Membership Rewards Points to Radisson Rewards?

The official line on the Amex site states an “estimated transfer time” of “10 working days”.

To get a range of real data points, I made a number of transfers on different days of the week and consistently found that transfers took between 8-11 days to be completed. Therefore, do bear the relatively long transfer time in mind if you are considering making a transfer to Radisson.

Linking you Radisson account initially seems impossible, as you’ll just keep getting errors about your account number. The trick is to cut the first 6 digits off your Radisson Rewards account number and enter the remaining digits – I have no idea why this works, but it does.

More generally, if you have issues linking accounts or making transfers online, don’t waste your time trying to sort it out yourself (the Amex Membership Rewards site isn’t great) – just give Amex a ring and they will do it for you.

It’s important to note that these results are currently based on a relatively small number of data points. Please share your own transfer times (including the day/time you made the transfer) in the comments and I will use the info to produce a more reliable average and range.

      Not at all.

The most interesting use of Radisson Rewards (IMO) is in places such as Scandinavia where a Radisson Blu might be your only international chain option at all. But they are hardly exciting hotels that you’d go out of your way for…

Not really at the lower end these days unfortunately (unlike Hilton, which still has some decent Cat 1-3s), but the top hotels cost 70,000 Radisson Points, which is equivalent to 23,334 Amex Points. I’d value that at at least £235, but Radisson has some nice options in London and elsewhere that could certainly set you back considerably more than that, depending on time of year etc. When you consider a top Hilton would require 47,500 Amex Points, it’s not a bad deal. I’d generally expect more from a top tier Hilton than I would from a Radisson, but I have a soft spot for the Park Plaza Westminster and the Radisson Edwardian in Manchester, etc.
