Gilbert over at GSTP has just received direct confirmation from Iberia that it will indeed be honouring the generous bonus Avios promotion – and that the Points should be hitting our accounts in the coming “hours/days”.

This is obviously excellent (though not unexpected) news – and credit to Gil for getting an official response from Iberia, because they had gone a bit quiet over the last day or so.

Before you start manically scrambling to check your account every 5 minutes to see if the Points are there – do remember that this is Iberia. I wouldn’t be hugely surprised if the ‘hours’ part of the “hours/days’ quote ends up being a little optimistic.

In fact, despite the confirmation, I won’t personally be cracking open the champagne until the Points are safely in my account and I’ve made sure there aren’t any crazy restrictions (well, unless England beat Colombia before then!).

Bottom line

We might still have to be patient for a little while longer, but it looks like this really was the promotion of the year!

What are you planning to do with your Avios? 😉

What to spend them on isn’t as easy as I initially thought. Have kids so finding availability in the same cabin’s going to be difficult, plus wife and I only have so much holiday a year, then, hotel rooms would suit us but I don’t want to miss out on bonus Hilton points. Difficult….

This is where I question my decision to sit this deal out. 90K would have meant taking my 2nd ever long haul business class flight (I could have flown Aer Lingus Biz from SFO to DUB or on Speedbird 1 between LCY and JFK 🙁 )

I did think very long and hard about taking part but the idea of my Iberia account becoming negative and potentially owing 90K Avios to IB if I combined over to BA to use them how I wanted was enough reason for me to get cold feet and chicken out. Plus I’ve never deliberately booked flights that I would never intend on boarding.
