Receive Double Avios When Booking a Vueling Flight During October

Back in August, rewardscollector wrote about the shift of Vueling onto the Avios platform as Vueling Club.

Vueling has also been recently added to the list of partners of Avios.com, the online shopping portal. To celebrate this, Avios.com members can earn Double Avios when BOOKING a Vueling flight between now and 31 October, 2017. It appears that you do not need to fly during October, but simply make your flight booking during October.

As a reminder, you can earn Avios directly from Vueling (without bothering with BA or IB codeshares) according to the following chart:

All you must do is enter your Avios.com number when booking your Vueling flight on the Vueling website.

Thanks to the promotion, you would subsequently earn 6 / 8 Avios per Euro whenever you get around to taking your flight.

Don’t Miss Out on the Arbitrage Opportunity

Interestingly, you don’t have to choose to earn Avios based on the paid fare. You can also choose to earn Avios based on the distance flown. To this however, you must purchase an Optima or Excellence fare and select Iberia Plus as your frequent flyer programme.

If you do that, you will earn:

  • 1 Avios per mile flown in Optima (with a 500 Avios minimum)
  • 1.5 Avios per mile flown in Excellence (with a 750 Avios minimum)

You cannot earn Iberia Plus Avios on a Basic (hand luggage only) fare however.

Ignore All of This if You Want to Earn BA Tier Points

You still cannot earn British Airways Avios directly from Vueling, so must continue to book BA codeshares if you want to earn those 5 Tier Points…

Conclusion

Since you can earn Avios via either Avios.com or Iberia Plus and subsequently “Combine Your Avios” into your main British Airways Executive Club account, it is worth doing a bit of math to see which method will give the highest mileage return for your booking.

I suspect so as well, but only if you tend to buy up from the Basic hand-baggage-only fare.

I also imagine that the 3 Avios per euro will have all sorts of sneaky exceptions for taxes, airport charges etc.
