The Iberia Plus / Groupon Offer is Back Again. Move Quickly!

We’ve seen this offer before… and love it!! It’s practically the only reason I pay attention to Groupon offers. You’re going to need some Spanish language skills though – or a web browser that can translate for you. But you should be able to purchase some Avios at a decent price. The offer comes from the Spanish version of Groupon and the Avios are sent to an Iberia Plus account.

It is easy enough to sign up for a Spanish Groupon account – if not resident in Spain just choose your favourite hotel and use their address.

The price per Avios jumps around a bit:

  • 2,000 Avios for 19 euros (0.95 euro cents apiece)
  • 4,000 Avios for 59 euros (1.48 euro cents apiece)
  • 8,000 Avios for 99 euros (1.24 euro cents apiece)
  • 15,000 Avios for 189 euros (1.26 euro cents apiece)
  • 20,000 Avios for 249 euros (1.25 euro cents apiece)
  • 34,000 Avios for 429 euros (1.26 euro cents apiece)

You are allowed to buy 1 of the 2,000 Avios packs, 3 of the 34,000 Avios packs and 5 of the other packs. In theory, you could buy up to 200,000 Avios in total.

Here is the direct link for the Groupon offer, although you don’t want to use it…

You want to go to the Iberia website and set your country settings to Spain in the top left-hand corner. Then you want to visit the IberiaPluStore. (which works exactly like your usual cashback or airline shopping portals) There you will find Groupon as one of the options, offering 9 Avios per euro spent (at the time of writing). Once in Groupon, you need to set your city to Madrid and search for Avios. Confusing? Perhaps this isn’t a travel hack for your grandmother… but it’s still free extra Avios…

So… if you buy a 2,000 Avios pack, you will also earn 171 Avios extra via the IberiaPluStore. 2,171 Avios for 19 euros (£17) works out to 0.78p per Avios.

Paying with PayPal should also help avoid any issues with the registered address on your credit card.

Last time around the 2,000 Avios packages sold very quickly. So you’d better get a move on if you want to take advantage…

How do the Avios get into my Iberia Plus account ? I must have to tell Groupon somewhere what my IberiaPlus number is but I don’t see where ?

After you have purchased, go the My Groupons section of your account and view the coupons (PDF files).
      – a direct link to this will be emailed within a few minutes.

Copy the two codes that are quoted top left on your coupon (PDF file) – a security code and a coupon code.

      Go here:
      https://ticket.groupon.es/iberia/step_1.php?session=new

Input the 2 codes and your email address.
Click next, on step 2 you put in your IB+ number.

Confirmation (step 3) that they will be credited within 15 days (this will also be emailed to you) a few moments late.

NOTE: getting to step 2 was not working on chrome on mac, had to use safari (didn’t try FF for some reason).

Ah, I see, you do get an email with the coupon after a while and within it is a link to the webpage to enter the groupon coupon security code and the groupon coupon code along with your email address, then you can enter your Iberia account number on the next webpage.

      Cheers.

That’s one way of doing it. You can go to your ‘My Groupon’ page as well. No email required for that.

34,000 Avios for 429 euros (1.26 euro cents apiece)

So does this actually work out at 1.1cent per mile once you include the 9 Avios / Euro bonus ?

    34000 + 3861 = 37861
    429/37861 = 0.0113

Anyone actually had these points show up in their Iberia account yet? The code seemed to go through fine on the submission page, but nothing has shown up yet.
