Are Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles any good?

Definitely.

I value KrisFlyer Miles as being worth more than Avios / Virgin Flying Club Miles (Craig’s excellent Points/Miles valuation chart takes a similar view).

The Singapore Airlines award chart has some fantastic sweetspots for Singapore’s own flights – like Manchester to Houston in Business Class for 48,875 Miles in Business Class, or Istanbul to Singapore for 38,250 Miles in Business Class one-way. (Note that when you book an award online, the number of Miles required is discounted by 15% compared to what the award chart states).

Although you usually  have to pay ‘surcharges’ of some sort, it isn’t always a huge amount – Houston to Manchester for example is only a little over £100 one-way in that direction, which is a steal considering Singapore offer one of the best Business Class products in the world.

There can also be tremendous value to be had by redeeming on Singapore’s partner airlines too – like Central America/Caribbean to Hawaii for just 17.500 Miles in Economy (30,000 Business) one-way with no surcharges on United, or 22,500 year round (again with no surcharges) on United one-way in Economy, between Europe and Canada/USA (excluding Hawaii).

At a more advanced level, you can extract even more value by taking advantage generous stopover rules too.

It really is one of the best (and most underrated) loyalty programmes for UK travellers to collect Miles in, and as an American Express transfer partner, it’s possible to build a decent balance relatively quickly.
