For the next four days (until 18th July) you can get an 80% Hilton Points bonus when purchasing any amount (minimum purchase is 1,000 = 1,800).

Hilton HHonors Points usually cost 0.75p each  (1 US cents), so with the 80% bonus it works out at 0.42p each.

The maximum number of Points you can purchase is 144,000 (80,000 + 64,000 Bonus) for £600.00 ($800.00).

Hilton have ran 100% bonuses fairly regularly historically (a couple of times a year), so this isn’t exceptional – but it could still potentially save you quite a bit of money on Hilton stays.

Best Uses

We’ve written before about what a brilliant bargain Hilton’s Category 1 and Category 2 hotels can be, requiring only 5,000 or 10,000 Points per night. If you bought Points with the current 80% bonus, that means you can get stays for £21.00 or £42.00 respectively.

If you have any status with Hilton (even just Silver) you can get 5 nights for the price of 4 when redeeming Points, so 5 nights at a Category 1 hotel would cost £84.00, or £16.80 per night (20,000 Points). 5 nights at a Category 2 hotel would cost just £134.40, or £33.60 per night.

Hilton still offer some surprising Category 1 + 2 gems – just because they are in a low award category doesn’t mean they are bad hotels!

As regards Category 1 hotels, for me the pick of the crop in Europe is the Hampton by Hilton in Krakow which regularly charges over £50.00 per night and gets 4.5 stars on TripAdvisor.

More exotically, I’ve been fascinated for a while by the stunning looking Hilton Salalah Resort in Oman. Paid rates are often north of £100.00 per night, so by buying Points you can save more than 80% on stays there!

There is just one Category 1 Hilton hotel in the UK these days – the Hampton by Hilton Newport/East. Ok, it may not be The Ritz, but it isn’t bad and standard rates can be well over £80.00 per night.

In terms of Category 2 hotels, there are currently 6 in the UK:

I’ve stayed at (and can recommend) the two Sheffield hotels. Both hotels can charge £100.00+ during busy times.

Internationally, there’s plenty to choose from. I’ve stayed at the Doubletree in Kuala Lumpur which is absurdly good value for 10,000 points, and the Doubletree Beijing is highly regarded too. Cash rates of £60.00-£120.00 are fairly standard for both.

It is also worth remembering that Points booking are flexible too, and the cash rates I’ve quoted here are for the lowest non-refundable rates!

I don’t normally consider buying Points, but with the Hilton bonuses it can definitely make sense in some circumstances – do check the cash rates for your dates first though!

I considered using the Hampton Newport when I was trying to reach Hilton Gold status but I used another route in the end.

The thing about the hotel is that it’s not in a tourist hotspot and it’s not even in Newport. It’s just off a motorway junction in Wales. It’s also damned expensive to get to if you’re not nearby. I’m hoping Hilton might introduce some more Category 1 hotels elsewhere in the UK sometime 🙂

It’s a pretty decent hotel though! I stayed last year and was very pleasantly surprised. And a total bargain for 5000 HH points..
