SPG Triple Up – Earn Bonus Points With Starwood Hotels

Some links to products and partners on this website will earn an affiliate commission.

Registration is now open for the SPG Triple Up promotion. The offer will run from 9 May 2016 up to and including 31 July, 2016.

SPG bonus

It’s a pretty straightforward SPG points bonus, with the following three offers available:

  • Triple Starpoints at Sheraton hotels and resorts
  • Double Starpoints at all other brands
  • An extra 1,000 Starpoints for stays that include a Friday or Saturday night (Thursday or Friday night in the Middle East).

You need to register for this promotion by the end of 17 July, and a list of participating hotels is here.

The ordinary earning rate for SPG Starpoints at Starwood hotels is two per US $1 spent. While elite-level SPG members earn bonus Starpoints, it is only the base two Starpoints that will be doubled/tripled by this offer.

SPG Starpoints are generally regarded as one of the most valuable frequent flyer currencies, not least given their flexibility (you can convert them to airline miles in a variety of programmes at a very competitive rate, for example). As such, any opportunity to earn additional Starpoints is a good one, and we strongly suggest you sign up to this one. It’s probably not then worth making back-breaking efforts to benefit from this (as it often is, for example, with offers like IHG Accelerate), but if it fits into your travel plans, then great.

It of course joins the current Hilton double points promo, which we flagged earlier this month.

Just registered and was about to post here, when I noticed SPG have taken 5000 points out of my account ( you can guess why). Really hacked off. I should have booked Manchester to Munich First Class with Singapore Airlines as soon as I had the points but I was going to save up some more for he return. Aargh!

I wouldn’t have a problem if they’d taken them out straight away but they put them in there a month ago. I’ve not a leg to stand on but I will be mentioning that fact on social media. And also that they didn’t notify me.

Ah yes, I have similarly had 1000 points deducted from my account. As you say, difficult to complain too much but disappointing nevertheless.

(For anyone wondering what we’re talking about, points won in the SPG MLB game back in March were awarded twice. SPG are now removing these additional points from people’s accounts)

“Thank you for contacting the Starwood Social Media Team. We welcome the opportunity to assist you.

We have reviewed your account and we would like to inform you that 5,000 Starpoints were posted twice resulting in 10,000 Starpoints posted in total for the MLB game 2016. On May the 3rd 5,000 Starpoints were removed from your account, as they were mistakenly posted twice. We apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused.”

I’m resgietered for this promo now, so thank you. Looks like I will be staying at the Sheraton Heathrow at some point to get 1000 points back at least…

Sheraton costs £64 a night but apparently you only get the 1k bonus if you stay two nights (i.e. on top of the other two points offers). As valuable as the points are, £128 for a couple of nights at Heathrow is a bit too much!
