Discounts on Food & Beverage outlets at UK airports with FLIO app

Food and Drink at most UK airports is awfully expensive. I blame the queue at Pret a Manger at T5 on the costs at the ‘sit down’ restaurants at that terminal at Heathrow.

FLIO, an app which provides useful information about airports – how to connect, lounge options, where the ATM’s for example – also offer deals on restaurants and Duty Free shops. In fact at the moment you can buy tickets on the Heathrow Express via their app – £22 Express Saver Single or £36 return.  This is the same price as the web site. Much cheaper fares are available when you book in advance. (The 10% offer below has expired.)

The app locates your nearest airports and offers you a chance to pick the terminal you are leaving from so it can customise your discount offering- these are some of the offers at Heathrow.

The deals seem to be about 10% off a number of food outlets. The offers change so it’s worth downloading and checking on the offers when you actually travel.

There are deals at London City Airport, an airport where prices for sit down food are pretty high – like £15 for a burger and drink.

This can be a decent saving if you want/need to eat at the airport.

Once you select the offer you want to use at the airport you tap on the offer, scroll to the bottom, and reveal a code to show the outlet. A code is revealed and the discount applied.

For a free app, it really can save you some cash.

Some airports offer live Arrivals and Departures information via the app. The number of airports offering discounts varies – for example Hong Kong offers some discounts where as San Francisco offers none. But there is lots of information, layouts for the airports and suggestion for nearby attractions.

Am I right in thinking that it is Apple only? I tried on an Android phone and it couldn’t find it to load.
