The hotel where you can watch Premier League football through the window

When it comes to the ultimate view from a hotel room, many will argue for stunning seascapes or breathtaking mountain scenery, but I am far more easily pleased – just give me Premier League football.

And sure enough, my wish is IHG’s command. The Holiday Inn Norwich City offers a selection of rooms directly overlooking the pitch at Premier League Norwich’s Carrow Road stadium, and anyone who books a room there on matchday is fully entitled to watch the game from the comfort of their lodging.

Unsurprisingly, the cost of pitch-view rooms rises steeply on match day (you can check-in from 2pm, so there’s no issue with the 3pm kick-offs). Staying on the evening of the Chelsea game (Tuesday 1 March), for example, will cost you £224 per night (double occupancy):

At the other end of the scale, staying on the afternoon/evening of the Sunderland game on Saturday 16 April will cost you a more modest £149.95 (again, double occupancy):

To put these prices into context, a stay on Saturday 5 March (when Norwich are playing away at Swansea), is £76.95 for the night, so you’re paying quite a premium for the football:

That said, as you can see from the pictures, this really is a proper view of the football right from your bedroom (or, if you want to do it in complete style, your bed):

The major disappointment for many will be the fact that none of the pitch view rooms appear to be open to IHG Rewards points redemption, so if you want this experience, you’re seemingly going to have to pay for it.

Nevertheless, with the rather wonderful convenience of literally not having to leave your bedroom to watch Premier League football in the flesh, there’s a lot to be said for getting the cash out for this particular experience.

There’s also the Hilton Doubletree at Milton Keynes which is built into the stadium, though a lot of the rooms turn into hospitality suites so I don’t know if you can get to watch from your room or not there

West Ham also have a “hotel” at Upton Park, although it is quite literally people squatting in the exec boxes, so definitely no chance of watching the game from bed.

If you’re ever at West Ham hospitality and there’s a distinctly “musty” smell in the box, that will explain it.
