As we have previously flagged, every Wednesday Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG), releases the latest round of “SPG Hot Escapes” on their dedicated website.

 

These deals can be booked until the coming Saturday for hotel stays in the subsequent 6 weeks, with discounts that can go up to 50% depending on the destination and hotel.

If you’re not a member yet of the SPG loyalty programme, then I recommend you sign up (for free), as you will get an extra discount of 5% on all the prices featured on the SPG Hot Escapes website. 

Compared to the offerings of previous week, there’s a small increase in the number of hotels in the latest round.

In fact, there were only 55 hotels on Wednesday’s list:

• Africa: 2 hotels
• Asia: 13 hotels
• Europe: 8 hotels
• Mexico: 1 hotel
• Middle East: 1 hotel
• North America: 29 hotels
• South America: 1 hotel

 

 

This week there are a couple of hotels available for the UK. These hotels are the Sheraton Grand at London Park Lane, the Sheraton Grand in Edinburgh and the Aloft London Excel. Prices below are stated in US Dollar as SPG is still experiencing issues displaying foreign currencies.

 

Note that you will earn Starpoints when booking one of the SPG Hot Escapes deals  – like you would with an ordinary booking through the SPG website. That said, dished out on a strict revenue basis, Starwood doesn’t reward you with many points for hotel stays, especially if you compare the number of points you receive with, for example, IHG.

However, the Starwood Preferred Guest loyalty programme does have an interesting conversion rate for transferring points from your SPG account to your favourite airline frequent flyer account. It’s possible to convert Starpoints at a 1:1 rate to air miles. You’ll also earn a 5,000 point bonus when you transfer 20,000 points.
